Woodwinds Chamber Music: Flute Day

Flutists of all ages and abilities are invited to join us for a day focused on all things flute at the University of South Carolina, hosted by flute professor Jennifer Parker-Harley and the South Carolina Flute Society, our USC student organization. Attendees will experience a full day of classes, concerts, exhibits and fun!

Flute Day 2025

Saturday, November 15
10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
USC School of Music (813 Assembly St., Columbia, SC)

Activities and classes for beginning, intermediate and advanced players of all ages connect flutists from across the state and region for a day full of great learning, listening, and playing experiences.

The day's activities include:

  • A short recital featuring USC flute students 
  • An informative presentation led by a member of the USC School of Music’s admissions team. This event is especially for high school students considering majoring or participating in music in college and their parents.
  • Flute “petting zoo,” including alto and bass flutes and various flutes from around the world
  • Classes on SC All-State etudes at junior, clinic and senior levels
  • Solo Masterclass and Orchestral Excerpts Masterclass with USC flute professor Jennifer Parker-Harley, featuring students chosen by recording
  • Kinderflute class for flutists (or future flutists!) ages 4-8. Flute teachers interested in learning more about Kinderflute are welcome to attend.
  • Coffee, pizza lunch and snacks provided!
  • Exhibitors from flute companies, including the Powell Flute Company

Cost, Registration and Check-In

A $50 registration fee (non-refundable), paid online and in advance, covers all activities and lunch. Parents may attend for free.

On-site registration is available on November 15 for $55.

All participants under the age of 18 are required to fill out an online Waiver of Liability for Minor Participants.  

If you are interested in being considered for the Solo Masterclass and/or the Orchestral Excerpts masterclass, please submit a recording of the piece or excerpt you would like to play. You will find a link for submission on the registration form.
