Student Ambassador Responsibilities
Student Ambassadors must operate in keeping with the values, mission and image of the University of South Carolina’s College of Education. As an Ambassador, you can have opportunities to:
- Meet with prospective students
- Facilitate orientation or welcome activities
- Serve as representatives of the larger COE student population
- Support outreach and recruitment initiatives
- Provide strong student support at college-wide special events and ceremonies.
Additionally, ambassadors are often invited to share their student perspective with the Dean’s Office on important issues and to give input for new initiatives for college improvements. The senior leadership of the College of Education makes decisions based on student input and feedback, when appropriate.

Serving as an Ambassador is a significant honor within the College of Education. Ambassadors
are recognized and acknowledged for their accomplishments and service on many occasions.
Networking Opportunities
As an Ambassador, you will receive invitations to official campus and college functions.
You will also have access to an exclusive peer network, which can provide prospects
to develop relationships with alumni and donors.
Leadership Opportunities and Professional Development
You will have the unique experience of serving as a student leader and voice for your
peers among faculty and staff, which can give you opportunities to develop the confidence
and skills in performing the leadership duties associated with your responsibilities
as an Ambassador.
Eligibility Requirements
Student Ambassadors are selected based upon academic records, interpersonal skills and dependability. You are required to:
- be a current College of Education student (including COE intended majors)
- be enrolled as a full-‐time student
- have a minimum of 3.0 GPA
- have at least two semesters remaining before graduation
- show a strong commitment to the College of Education and its programs
You will be expected to attend one meeting per month and certain functions, as designated by the advisors. In addition, you should be willing to participate in social and educational events of the College.
Application Process
The application must be completed and submitted on or before [[application date]] at 5:00pm, and include the following:
- Current resume or curriculum vitae
- Contact information for one COE faculty or staff member to serve as a reference
- A one-page essay (300-500 words) and two-minute video clip addressing the following
prompts:
- Why do you wish to be involved in the COE Student Ambassador group? What qualities will you contribute to the group?
- What does diversity mean to you? How will you contribute to the COE's diversity initiative?
- What is your vision for the COE? How do you see the Ambassador group contributing to this vision?
The College of Education reserves the right to verify that applicants meet the criteria and, in its sole discretion, to reject any applicant for any reason. Applications submitted after the deadline or incomplete applications will not be considered.
