Earned his certification as a Health
Fitness Instructor by the American College of Sports Medicine
(ACSM). Kent is the Fitness Program Coordinator for the

Prize, and her collection of poetry, Moving House, is
published in September by Texas Review Press. (October

Dr. Walt Collins

another Other in Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s Purple Hibiscus," at
the annual meeting of the Southern Comparative Literature Association

Prof. Dianne Evans
Attended the 44th
Annual Southeastern Conference for College Counseling hosted by
the University of North Carolina Wilmington Counseling Center and
sponsored by the American College Personnel Association for Counseling
and Psychological Services. (September 2007)
Dr. Walt Collins
Conducted an in-person interview
in May 2007 with emerging Nigerian novelist Sefi
Atta, author of several short stories, plays, and novel.
His second novel, Swallow,
is due to be released in Nigeria in March 2008. Collins's interview
will be published in the October 2007 issue of English in
Africa,
a peer-reviewed journal which "publishes
articles on African literature and the English language in Africa." Funding
for travel and for recording devices for the interview was awarded
through a Research and Productive Scholarship Grant established
by USCL's Office of the Dean. (September 2007)
Dr. Walt Collins
Received
a grant for $1,800 to provide French films to show
during the annual French Film Festival at USC Lancaster
in November. The grant is funded through French
American Cultural Exchange (FACE). (August 2007)
