Scholarships & Awards
Since its inception, the University of South Carolina Lancaster
has stressed academic achievement hand in hand with leadership. Because
of this interest in the well rounded student, USC Lancaster has
built and continues to expand upon a program that draws to our
campus some of the finest academically prepared student leaders
the region has to offer.
Although an education at USC Lancaster is affordable and one of
the best buys around, many students may still need some form of financial
assistance. USC Lancaster awards approximately thirty-five scholarships
each year to entering high school students. In addition, approximately
40% of our student body receive some type of federal aid.
Students must first be officially accepted at the University before
receiving a scholarship. Therefore, the admissions process
must be completed before the Scholarship application deadline of
February 1.
HOW TO APPLY
Scholarship applications may be picked up in the guidance office
at area high schools or in the Admissions Office at USCL. Complete
all sections of the application. Submit the application,
a copy of high school transcript, and essay to the Admissions Office
no later than February 1.
Outstanding academic achievement, strong academic potential, and
leadership ability are qualifications for receiving a scholarship. Recipients
are usually required to maintain a "B" or 3.0 GPA (Grade point average)
to continue receiving the award for the second year and in some instances,
for the completion of the degree program on the Columbia campus. In
addition, students are strongly encouraged to take an honors course
each semester, to attend the scholarship luncheon, and notify the
donor in writing of their receipt of the scholarship.
Scholarship recipients are chosen by the Student Scholarships and
Special Awards Committee. Recipients are selected on the basis
of high school record, Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or ACT scores,
a committee interview, and other qualifications as established by
the selection committee. Successful applicants will be in the
top 10 percent of their high school class or score 1100 or more on
the SAT or 24 on the ACT or meet other designated criteria as determined
by scholarship guidelines.
Scholarships are awarded for the regular academic year and are not
available in the summer. Students selected for scholarships
must enroll full time at USCL in order to receive their awards.
