Lancers Finish Ninth At SMC
Tyler Young leads Lancers as Medalist

The USCL Lancer Golf Team carded a 639 total at the Links O'Tryon Golf Club in Campobello, SC, on October 6th and 7th, 2008.  Brevard College, a NCAA Division II school, won the event with a 582 total, which included a 2 under par performance on Tuesday.

Daniel Hardy, of host institution Spartanburg Methodist College, was the medalist with a (72 + 69) = 141. Tyler Young led the Lancers with a 155 total (81 + 74).  Skip Small was second at (81 + 75) = 156.  Other Lancers scores were:

Stephen Adeimy          (82 + 84) = 166
Mike Burch    (80 + 82) = 162
Drew Bragg       (73 + 85) = 158
Donavan Pettit          (82 + 86) = 168
John Michael Hudson  (87 + 87) = 174

"The 6877 yard layout proved to be a good test for the 60 golfers," said Rick Walters, USCL coach. "We were particularly proud of the way Tyler and Skip came back the second day to help the team improve 9 by shots.  Tyler, who had his best day as a USCL player, has come a long way since his freshman year.  He finished 23rd overall in the event and Skip finished 27th."

"Drew Bragg, competing as an individual participant, played extremely well on Monday, firing a 73."  His hard work is paying off," said Walters.

This event marked the third tournament of the year for the Lancers.  On September 15th, the Lancers played in the Montreat Invitational.  Stephen Adeimy carded a (76 + 72) = 148 to take 6th place. The Lancers play in the Coker Invitational October 13th & 14th to conclude the fall season.

USCL Golfers Host “The Fall Challenge

The USCL Lancer Golf team opened the fall season with a second place finish on September 5th at the Lancaster Golf Club. The Fall Challenge included Division I foes Spartanburg Methodist College and Tri-County Technical College.  Each of the three participating schools fielded two teams.

SMC came away with the Fall Challenge Cup by shooting a 290.  USCL’S Blue Team was second at 305, while Tri-County’s A Team was third at 308.  Chancen Blackwood of SMC led all scorers with a 70.

Skip Small was the Lancer medalist with a 72.  Other Lancer Blue Team scorers were:                                                                         Stephen Adeimy -- 77
                                                            Tyler Young -- 77
                                                            Mike Burch -- 79
                                                            Preston Brewer -- 83

“First year participant Skip Small played extremely well in the rain.   We are glad to have Skip join us; he will be a big asset to the Lancer Team,” said Rick Walters, USCL golf coach.

USCL’S Gold Team, which carded a 325 for a 5th place finish, was led by Freshman Chase Hunter of Indian Land.  Chase carded a 76 over the Lancaster lay-out.

Other Gold Team scorers were:
Drew Bragg – 81
John Michael Hudson -- 83
Kevin Mcginnis -- 85
Donovan Pettit -- 91

“We have gotten off to a good start,” said Walters.  The guys have worked hard.  The 305 total by the Blue Team was a good score.  Anytime a team shoots 2-over par they will be hard to beat.  SMC will definitely be the favorite to win Region X this year.”

The Lancers will continue their fall season at Brevard, N.C. on September 14th and 15th at the Montreat College Invitational.
